I have talked a lot about Vitamix blenders and that is because they are great blenders. BUT, they are not the ONLY great blenders.

Move over Vitamix, Blendtec is the new best blender.

It took me quite a while to find Blendtec blenders. probably because I was so happy with my Vitamix, why bother looking at any other blender, right? Then my girlfriend Cherice got a Blendtec and oh wow. They are truly amazing. They are so much more modern than the Vitamix and smarter. She can whip up anything in it, and I mean anything!

They have been around for nearly 40 years. And I didn’t know about them til recently? They are also made in the United States. Tom Dickson, the founder and president of the company, has taken blender performance and design to a new level. Never before have i seen such a perfect machine. Every model has a flat panel; no buttons, switches or knobs to collect gunk. Just wipe it clean, easy peasy. They also say you can put the jars in the dishwasher. No more cutting your hands and fingers trying to get the blender blade clean of your sticky creations. I mean, it just doesn’t get any better than this folks!

More powerful, much prettier and did I say they look better? I just love love love that I can choose a program setting and push the button and have it go. My Vitamix didn’t do that. And when they tried with the 750 to have blend programs, they didn’t really work. Now Blendtec does it sooo much better. I learned that they were the original company to have automatic blending programs. That is why all the big smoothie and coffee shops like Jamba Juice and Starbucks use them.

These blenders don’t even need a tamper. Their high-tech design allows them to blend anything without it. One less thing in your kitchen. And as I’ve mentioned, these performance blenders are loud. Too loud for you? Well then you can get a Blendtec with a sound enclosure to significantly reduce the sound. It will be the quietest blender you have ever heard – and still be the most powerful. How awesome is that?

    Blendtec Twister Jar

You say you don’t need the awesome giant wildside jar that these blenders come with? Not a problem. They have a smaller jar available. Also you can get their super cute and wonderfully efficient even smaller Twister Jar. This thing is so cute.

Perfect for small blends and thick creations like nut butters. The Blendtec Twister Jar is by far the best blender container ever made. The engineering and design behind every one of Blendtec’s products is nothing short of top-notch and amazing. I know, how many times can I say amazing about a blender? Well, once you experience one of these babies you will understand my excitement and my absolute need to keep using that word!

If you are shopping for a blender and are considering a Vitamix you have to check out Blendtec. They are amazing and I highly recommend them. They even come with an 8-year warranty. That is the best you can get. Love it! If you are gonna spend this kind of money for your blender you should know all your options, not just the one you see on TV. To learn more about Blendtec Blenders here. If you are serious about a blender, then you owe it to yourself to consider them. You would actually be doing yourself a disservice if you did not.

One model, the Designer 725 even tells you how to blend better. Yup. It teaches you to be a better blender yourself. You have to check them out.

First of all they are both extremely powerful blenders, and you’ll be able to get the same results in either one. If money’s a concern, I would suggest you to go with the Vitamix 5200. Otherwise, the 750 might be a good choice. I tend to think of it as going more directly against the Blendtec blenders. Both companies make quality products, and folks generally decide which based on ‘bells and whistles’ – not ability and results. I think the competition is good for consumers; Blendtec changed its earlier poor lid design to something much more like Vitamix’s; Vitamix now has blenders, like this one, available with a hybrid of Vitamix and Blendtec features.

Anyway, the Vitamix 750 is 40% quieter than the 5200, something I would really appreciate. The jar that comes with it is short enough to fit under a cabinet, and that jar is the full 64 oz. that the taller Vitamix jars are. Other shorter Vitamix jars are 32-48 ounces. The wider based jar is easier to remove sticky things from, like nut butters. Vitamix believes the jar with the 750 blends more efficiently; but I don’t expect that to be noticeable. There are several presets (as with the Blendtecs) on the 750: smoothies, soups, frozen desserts, purees and wash. As with any blender with presets, you may have to run the blender for a few seconds longer with some recipes. The presets run the blender at changing speeds for preset times. Some people like presets, some hate them, some like having the option to use either them (and/)or a dial, and some just won’t buy a blender with presets as an option. You can just dial up to the speed you want on any blender I’ve seen. With the 750, the same dial switches to the presets or to the 1-10 speeds (sets on the left, speeds on the right). It has a pulse switch as well. The 5200 has a variable/high switch: for many recipes you ramp up to 10 on the dial, then flip that switch to high. The 750 has 20% more power, but it’s unlikely you’d ever see that difference. Williams-Sonoma, the seller of the 750, claims it’s the most powerful blender made. It is not – but again, I don’t think you’d be able to tell any difference. Anything at or above the power of the 5200 may just be overkill.

But you asked which someone who answers this would get. I would get the 750. I like the option of presets (with them you need the tamper less or not at all, and I love having the machine turn itself off so I can just walk away while it’s doing its thing), the jar design, and particularly the less-noisy thing. If I were thriftier, I’d get a reconditioned 5200, not necessarily the CIA-named one, as it’s the same machine as the non-private-branded 5200s OR a reconditioned 7500. Buy 10,000 5200s and they’ll put any name you want on them. I think that’s the number. It’s loads of money, wouldn’t it be? And I don’t know that, for me, the 5200 would be thrifty. I bought a 4500 – same blender as the 5200 but without variable speeds – which really is the incredible sort of machine you would expect from Vitamix. But I liked automatic cycles, so I bought a Blendtec, too. So much for thrift.

    Vitamix Pro Series 750

I mentioned the tamper. It’s used for two reasons. One is to prevent cavitation – a pocket of air above the blades that the ingredients swirl around, rather than their travelling through the blades. If you’re not using a programmed cycle, blend with it in place – many recipes will take half the time. It’s also used to tamp thicker things down as they blend. You need this less with the jar design of the 750, and also need that less with the variable speed cycles. There can still be cavitation with that jar design (with any jar design), but not with the presets that vary the speed and match the speeds well to the viscosity the cycle anticipates. Not that it’s that big a pain just to leave it in place.

Hi, I have always agreed with adding sweet to get in the habit of drinking all that nutrition.

If your long range intent is to reduce sugars, then yes, switch over to whole food sugars like an apples, well any fruit, especially dates/prunes/raisins are at least whole foods. And stevia if you can get used to the taste. but know that eating sweet substitutes keeps alive your appetite for sweets even if you are eating no refined sugar.

If you have a long range intention to eventually go off the sweets, then wait for the right time ( when you really feel like starting) and go cold turkey. For us when we do it, it is 3 days till fruit tastes sweet enough. And once I have switched over to fruit, even one bite of something sugar sweetened feels way way too, makes my mouth pucker. Then you become able to taste all the natural sweetness in vegetables and nuts. almonds for example are something I find very sweet.

I’ve made several recipe mostly smoothies and a couple soups. I’m finding the smoothies to not be sweet enough for me to drink. I made the Sweet Green Smoothie today and thought I’d never be able to choke this down. I added 1/2 T of honey and it was actually delicious. My book said it make 5 cups. I think that was a mistake as mine was only 1.5 cups. I drank it all.

However, your tastes will change and adjust. It doesn’t happen immediately, but I promise, it will. Were you ever a coffee drinker? My mother can drink her coffee black and to me that is just nasty, but she saves lots of calories that way. Besides honey, you might also get some stevia / truvia type sweetener packets to add to things. Pitted dates are also supposed to add sweetness to a recipe. Personally, I think you should keep adding the sweet because the majority of the drink is so nutritious for you.

I once went off artificial sweeteners. I did it mainly to get chemicals out of my life. The side effect was my decrease in my sugar craving. I was a candy a day person. I had stashes here in there in the house to keep my kids and DH from eating my candy. Come February I couldn’t believe how much candy didn’t appeal to me. My daughter then helped me empty out my stashes. She’s helpful that way. 😉 I had more of a DT from not drinking diet soda, but my new found calmness in the sugar department really got me through it.

I still though don’t like sour things and that is what I encounter with these Vitamix drinks. It’s reassuring that I’m on the right track to just add my honey or raw sugar. I might have some Stevia some where I’ll look.

Not sure if you should ever make hummus in VitaMix? First you need to know that besides it is going to take sometime to tamp ingredients down, it would sometimes sound like it was broken and adding more water. All these are pretty normal.

I thought this was a serious problem and I just used the food processor instead. But after tasting today to see any season adjustment or add more water (can’t imagine it needing it), everything about the machine just suddenly made sense to me. I’m taking to a family gathering & my cousin was going to make a veggie tray. I also want to make another batch for trip to NC. I’ve been using my pressure cooker to do beans. So far have done the garbanzo for hummus (& lentil casserole which can be made into a salad)

I made hummus the other day using the VM and it came out great after I added a little more lemon juice. I also added Tahini and a little water and some cilantro. I cooked the garbanzos until they were pretty well done too. When mixing, I did not flip the high switch, but used the higher settings on the variable dial and I did have to use the tamper too.  To get all of the hummus out of the blades and below, I used a skinny spatula, one about an inch wide.

I add olive or grapeseed oil to my hummus, but my new trick is after I get as much out of the container as possible making hummus, I make a V8 type smoothie and the last ingredient I add is ice. That really helps clean out the machine and makes it easier to do a general clean up.

I don’t always use dish soap but rinsing for many smoothies, but after anything with oil I put in some dish soap and water and run the machine. Ice seems the best to clean the machine.

I don’t use the Vitamix for Hummus – I use the food processor or Blendtec. I’ve got the Wildside jar for the Blendtec, so it’s even easier to get things out. HOWEVER – if you don’t have a narrow spatula for getting food out the Vitamix (or other blender) jar, I think you’d really like it. I consider it a necessary tool for our blenders. Once you spatulate out all you can, you can put the jar back on the Vitamix, put the lid on, and give it one quick pulse. Any hummus or whatever sticking to the blade flies off to the jar sides where it’s easy to

Anyway, you can purchase VitaMix from its official store: http://www.vitamix.com/ (I also got mine from there)

OK, I’m probably going to become a pariah here, but I have had a blendtec, currently own a vitamix 5200, and still love my little Magic Bullet, but what do I use the MB for? Making protein drinks that come out almost like Wendy’s frostys. Not quite, there’s some crunch to the ice pieces.

I’m sure I could do better with either the B or V, but the thing I LOVE is that it actually helped me speed up my diet results and make everything so effortless, and when I’m finished, I just take the blade and container off the little machine and turn it over, unscrew the blade, and am ready to drink directly from the container. With my B and V, I found I had to fight getting my thick frosty out of the container, losing some of that delicious goodness in the process. And interestingly there is a jar that compensates for that just like how the old Osterizer used to blend into mason jars strongly. I see the Blendtec Twister comes with a special spatula for getting stuff out.

A lot of us have skinny spatulas for our blenders. I have made several testing and found out that you can actually use one of those to get most of the stuff out, then put the jar back on the blender and pulse the blades for a second so anything stuck to them flies off.

With my thick smoothies and shakes, I pour what comes out easily or with a little prompting from a spatula. After a couple minutes the rest usually melts to the point where it will pour.

It’s easier to get stuff out of the Blendtec jars. It’s probably easier still with the Wildside jar, but I just got mine and haven’t played with it.

You don’t need to buy the Twister jar to get skinny spatulas. You can get them online or in stores.

By the way, I also have a ninja pulse, which comes with a small pitcher and 2 large tumbler size containers that have screw on drinking caps. I use it to make my smoothie in this large tumbler unscrew the blade housing and screw on the closable drinking cap and I am all set. I would be drinking from the container I blended in. And I just love it.

I saw the surgeon today about the pain I have been having and he said it was common to have pain at the site of the port when there is mesh use to adhere it to the abdominal wall. So yay there, but the BIGGEST Yay is that I weighed 343.0 so that means in the last 20 months I have lost 207.0 pounds! That is so cool and I am so happy! I thought I have lost a bunch more but was too nervous to weigh for fear of a gain.

Also, the way PP is designed, you DO count points for ingredients when making a recipe. EVEN if the recipe is all fruits and vegetables, they will still do this because otherwise a lot of people would drink large amounts of calories in smoothies and soups and fruit concoctions.

Of course there’s a certain amount of wiggle room in this – You may have doubt about at what point does “free food” become a recipe? But I think it makes a lot of sense, just because it’s so much harder to overeat plain fruits and plain vegetables. And the total allowances for the day are pretty much figured on people having 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables.

For the weight loss and the perseverance. Don’t be afraid to look at the scale, you will either see that you are doing really good, or that you need to do a little better. And it sounds like you are doing really good! 🙂 And I so happy that the pain was not something to worry about. It is good to have someone (doctor) reassure you that everything is okay.

On the other hand, Last night I was sitting on the couch when the phone rang. I hopped up and darted to the kitchen. After the conversation when I went back to the couch I realized that I had “hopped up”. This may sound strange, but it’s been a couple years since I’ve “hopped up”. I usually push off the arm of the couch. Same thing with getting out out of low cars – need to push my hands on my thighs or grab the edge of the roof for a hoist. Yet another reason I realized it was time to do something about this body – I should be able to hop off couches and out of cars at 28!

My brother told me the other day that he had to hold his breath to tie his shoes – if he ever decides to do WW I’ll pick him up and drive him there! I spend a lot of time with him and he’s been curious so I’ve explained all about points to him. He asked me “can you borrow points?” So I told him about banking. He said “no, I mean can you borrow them from other people, I think I could do it if I had 80 points per day?” He cracked me! 🙂
